Past research has shown that child centred play therapy (Axline, 1947; Landreth, 2002) can be an effective and developmentally informed approach to working with children who have experienced traumatic events (Hall, 2019; Schottelkorb, Doumas, & Garcia, 2012). This practical, interactive mini-workshop will describe specific core play therapy strategies for working with young children and helping them deal with behavioural, emotional and social effects of trauma. Participants will engage in collaborative discussions to structure the content of the workshop. This workshop will appeal to a range of practitioners who want to enhance their knowledge of play-based intervention approaches as part of their ongoing professional development.
