Professor Rainbow Tin Hung HO: Practice and Research in Arts Therapies: A Two-way Journey Practice is the best way to refine our skills and knowledge, while research enables us to understand the outcomes, processes and even mechanisms of our practical works. As a researcher and practitioner, I seek to understand how we can learn from practice, deepen our understanding of the effects and processes of creative arts therapies, and how we can use research findings to enrich and refine our clinical skills in order to provide better services and effective outcomes. This presentation will focus on the interrelationship between practice and research in arts therapy. Experiences of conducting rigorous research studies in arts therapy as well as implementing research in community arts projects will be shared. Discussion will also focus on how to balance the art and science in conducting research in arts therapy. Prof. Rainbow Tin Hung Ho, is a Professor at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration and Director of the Centre on Behavioral Health. the University of Hong Kong. Prof. Ho holds degrees in Biology, Anatomy, Social Work and Social Administration, professional diplomas in performing arts (dance), and credentials in expressive arts therapy, dance movement therapy, somatic movement therapy, movement analysis and group psychotherapy. In 2023, she joined the WHO Jameel Arts and Health Lab and the International Creative Arts Therapy Research Alliance as a steering committee member and researcher.
